POP3 Access
To set up your POP account, you need at minimum the following information:
  • Username: Name part of your MCSg email address (ahock@mail.com.sg, Username is ahock)
  • POP server: pop.mail.com.sg:110
  • SMTP server: smtp.mail.com.sg:25
  • Compulsory: turn SMTP AUTH on. (This point is very very crucial to adhere otherwise sending out mails will be impossible)

The details of configuring your email program for POP service vary from program to program. Here are configuration instructions for some of the most common email programs:

Can I use other email programs, such as Eudora or Outlook, to send and read my MCSg email?

Troubleshooting
Can I use other email programs, such as Eudora or Outlook, to send and read my MCSg email?  Top
Yes, MCSg offers POP3 access to MCSg mail as a way to handle fast and easy offline message management. POP3 access is a feature exclusively for all MCSg members.

With POP3 access, you may choose to read your MCSg messages on the MCSg web site or download them using your desktop email program (such as Eudora, Outlook, or Netscape mail).

In order to use an email client to send and receive MCSg mail messages, you must designate a new incoming (POP) mail server and a new outgoing (SMTP) mail server.

If you can't add new POP or SMTP servers, you will need to change your current server settings. Write down your current settings because you may need to revert to your original settings later if you decide to receive messages from your other email addresses.

Can I receive HTML messages in my email program, or can I only receive text-only messages?  Top
Some email programs have the ability to display HTML messages, which include graphics and links. Others can only display text and/or limited graphics. If you try to view an HTML message in a text-only email reader, your message will not display properly.

The following email clients are HTML compatible:

  • Microsoft Outlook 97, 98 and 2000
  • Outlook Express 98
  • Netscape
  • Eudora Pro
  • Web-based email (such as MCSg mail)
  • Other HTML readers
The following email clients are not HTML compatible:
  • Lotus Notes
  • cc:mail
  • AOL
  • Other plain text readers
If you have questions, please consult the Help files for your particular email program.

 Troubleshooting  Top
There are a number of factors that could cause difficulties with POP access. We've outlined most of them below:

Invalid password
Are you sure that the password you're using to access your MCSg mail is correct? To find out, go to: http://www.mail.com.sg. If you are able to log in to your MCSg account with the password you have been using, then your password has not changed. If you can't log in, you can request a new password by clicking on Forgot Password or PIN? on the MCSg login page.

Client Settings
Is there a problem with your email client settings? Please ensure that you have configured your email client with these settings:

  • Incoming mail (POP3) Server: mail.mail.com.sg (Port 110)

  • Account Name/Login Name: your MCSg User name (i.e. "ahock")
  • E-mail address: your MCSg email address (i.e. "ahock@mail.com.sg")

Why am I having difficulty sending MCSg mail messages from my email client?
For security reasons, we require that you log in to our POP servers before you may send mail from an email client. To do this, your email client will need to download new messages within one hour before attempting to send messages. This allows us to authenticate your identity.

If your email client sends mail first when you click "Send/Receive," you may need to click "Send/Receive" twice. If you can't send mail after several tries, move messages out of the Outbox, attempt to receive with an empty Outbox, and then try to send your message again.

If you try both of the above steps and continue to have problems, please make sure that you have entered your MCSg email Address as the "From" address in your email client. You will not be able to send mail if you have entered another address.

If you are still unable to send MCSg messages from your email client, then you will have to temporarily use your own ISP to send email.
